How to Find Error Fares (and Actually Book Them)

Every few weeks, an airline accidentally loads a fare with a missing zero or a broken currency conversion. These are 'error fares', and travelers who move fast can fly business class for the price of economy.

Where they show up

  • Meta-search engines like FlightCompare often surface them first.
  • Dedicated deal alert communities catch them within minutes.
  • Currency arbitrage routes (booking in a third country) are a common source.

How to verify before booking

Search the same route on two independent tools. If both show the unusual price, it's most likely a real (if mistaken) fare. Take a screenshot of every step.

Booking smart

  • Use a credit card with strong trip protection.
  • Don't book non-refundable hotels for at least 24–48 hours.
  • Avoid posting publicly until you're ticketed.
